Introduction
We invite you to discover Kihnu Island, which is on the UNESCO cultural heritage list. Kihnu is the largest island in the Gulf of Livonia, the seventh largest among the Estonian islands. With its length of 7 km and width of 3.3 km, this island is ideal for a one-day cycling tour. There are four villages in Kihnu, all of them are interesting and worth visiting. There is a port in Lemsi village, larger shops in Sääreküla, a church, a cemetery and a local history museum in Linaküla, a lighthouse and a memorial stone for Kihnu Jõnnu in Rootsiküla.
The island also has beautiful beach meadows, boulders and, of course, nice people.

The hike can be done in three variants:
* participate in our planned guided hike at specific times
* order a guided hike for your group for a time that suits you (up to 80 in)
* complete the trail independently as a self-guided hike by following the trail using GPS (2-9 in)

Who is it for? For everyone from 12 years of age / height at least 155 cm. Athletic training is not necessary
What bike? Electric mountain bike or electric mountain scooter (make a choice when booking)
What to wear? Closed, comfortable shoes and layered clothing appropriate for the weather

What to expect

During the hike we will see the following points of interest:

Suaru harbor and harbor market
Suaru is the oldest harbor in Kihnu. In the old days, there was no port in Kihnu. People and goods were transported from the ships to the beach on boats and horses. The port was started to be built with state funds on Suaru land only in 1936 and was completed in August 1938.

Nord’s way
The Nord road is a symbolic stone sign dedicated to the seafarers, where the stone noises symbolize one of the seafarers’ guides, Väike Vankri.

Lohu craft store
The oldest handicraft shop in Kihnu is run by the housewives of Lohu farm, everything offered is genuine Kihnu handiwork. In addition, there is a farm cafe set up in the yard, where you can enjoy locally baked pie and cake with coffee or tea.

Old fire station
the old fire station was built in the 1960s in a communal manner after the first ZIS-5 fire engine was brought to the island. From that time until the turn of the century, the Kihnu fire department was managed by Jaan Joala from the Kaevandu farm.
In 2009, the rescue team moved to the premises of the new technical center.

Jõnnu stone
The memorial stone to Kihnu Jõnnu, or ship captain Enn Uuetoale, marks the birthplace and home of the legendary forest captain.

Kihnu lighthouse
The lighthouse of Kihnu, or puaek, is located on the southernmost tip of the island on Pitkänä island. The lighthouse was brought here disassembled in parts from England in 1864 and reassembled on the spot. Since 2013, the tower has been open to visitors again and people can go up to admire the beautiful view.

Kanala
After the lighthouse maintenance team left Kihnu, the military unit that was their housing was converted into a chicken house.

Metsamaa heritage farm
The traditional Kihnu farm complex dating from the 20th century has a residence, a barn, a sauna-outdoor kitchen and a cellar. Household utensils, folk clothes and handicrafts typical of Kihnu are exhibited at the farm.

Lülle mountain
This is the home of Kihnu’s strongman Lülle Lülli.

The square of the old public house
After World War II, the first public house was built in Kihnu, which was completed in 1950. Until 1957, dancing was performed in the public house by the light of kerosene lamps, then electricity arrived on the island. The old public house with the book and antiquities collection that was located in it burned to the ground in September 1999.

Church
Lutheranism reached Kihnu during the Swedish period, in the 17th century. In 1624, a wooden church was built in the middle of the island. In 1784, the current stone church building was built in its place.

Museum
Located in a former school building, the museum introduces the traditional culture of Kihnu

Suarõ’s nose
Suarõ ninä is a historical place name on the west coast of the island. This was the landing place for the large herring boats of the men of Linaküla.

Liiva-aa stone
The largest boulder in Kihnu, under which, according to legend, underground people live. The circumference of the rock shelter under the nature reserve is 9.78 m and the height is 2.44 m.

In the northern part of Kihnu harbor in Säareküla.

Kihnu airport
The first plane landed in Kihnu in 1953 and caused great excitement among the islanders. The airfield, which was first located in Linaküla on the west coast of the island, was moved to Säärekülla in the north of the island in 1968.

Smoke shop
In the late 1960s, a smoke shop was built on the island in order to value the fish and create jobs for the female family.

Old power station
Electricity reached Kihnu homes at the end of 1957 and was produced in a diesel power plant. There is now a cable connection to the mainland.
